At least nine members of a family were killed and two others injured when the roof of their house collapsed in Artrat area of Banda district in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred at around 8:30 pm, when the family members were sitting on the roof because there was no electricity in the area, Jagran reports. The locals rushed to the spot to pull people out. Police too arrived at the scene after receiving information and carried out rescue operation.

While seven people died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital, News18 Hindi reported. Two others are currently admitted to the hospital.

The locals said that the walls and roof of the building had become weak due to heavy rainfall. They said that the building was old and they had complained about it to the local administration as well, but no action was taken.
