An 18-year old gangrape victim, who was to make a court appearance in two days, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Baijapur village of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday morning.
The motorcycle-borne gunmen shot the girl, while she was going to see a doctor, NDTV reported. She was accompanied by her brother when the shooting took place.
The young girl was to appear in the court on 15 September as a witness. She was allegedly raped on 6 June, 2011 by two men. The main accused, BK Singh, worked as a manager in a local college in Mau district, according to police.
The girl's family has alleged that she was shot dead at the behest of Singh. The police said they have launched an investigation into the murder.
