Kamal Haasan starrer "Uttama Villain" (Uthama Villain) has got a great start in the US and has beaten the records of Ajith's recent movie, "Yennai Arindhaal", at the box office. However, it has failed to surpass the total collection of movies like Vijay's "Kaththi" and Mani Ratnam directorial "Ok Kanmani".
"Uttama Villain" has earned ₹2.96 crore at the US box office in three days from 98 screens. It has beaten "Yennai Arindhaal", which had made ₹2.20 in three days in the same region. Ajith's film had released in 75 screens.
But Kamal Haasan starrer has failed to surpass the collection of "Kaththi", which had collected ₹3.42 crore from 86 screens at the US box office. The advantage that Vijay's film had was a five-day weekend. If only three days' collection is taken into consideration, Kamal's film is ahead of Ilayathalapathy's movie, which had earned ₹1.82 crore in three days.
Last week's release "Uttama Villain" has lost to "Ok Kanmani" and Vikram starrer "I" by a huge margin. While Mani Ratnam's movie earned ₹3.87 crore from 175 screens in the US, Vikram's "I" collected ₹4.30 crore from 222 screens at the box office.
However, Kamal Haasan's "Uttama Villain" has made decent business in the international circuits like Malaysia, Australia, and Canada.
"Uttama Villain" has earned ₹95.12 lakh in Malaysia, ₹69.30 lakh in Australia, and ₹30.58 lakh in Canada. The business made by the Tamil movie in other regions is yet to be revealed.
At the Tamil Nadu box office, the movie has performed well in Chennai. In other regions, the collection has been okay. "Uttama Villain", which is directed by Ramesh Aravind, has not made impressive business in Andhra Pradesh. It has made average business in Kerala and Karnataka.
The film produced by N Lingusamy has Andrea Jeremiah and Pooja Kumar in the female lead roles. Late legendary director and Kamal's mentor K Balachander would be seen in a cameo.
