Manchester United better get ready to pay another world record fee. Because Usain Bolt is all set to train with Borussia Dortmund, and knowing the great man, he could end up impressing so much that the Bundesliga club end up giving him a contract.
Bolt has for long professed his love for the game, even imploring Manchester United, his favourite club, to sign him up on several occasions. Dortmund, though, are now at the head of the queue, after agreeing to give the triple Olympic champion an opportunity to train with the team.
The fact that both the club and the player are sponsored by Puma, of course, played a big part, but it will be interesting to see how Bolt performs when he does get an opportunity to play alongside the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mario Gotze and Andre Schurrle.
"We decided this some time ago," Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hanz-Joachim Watzke told Kicker. "Puma CEO Bjorn Gulden, who is member of our board, has told us that Usain is highly interested in practising with us.
"For us that's no problem. Our coach Thomas Tuchel likes the idea as well."
It is not likely to happen anytime soon, though, with Dortmund currently engaged in a Bundesliga battle with Bayern Munich and co. and Tuchel's men involved in the Champions League as well.
"Of course he won't visit us in an important week with Champions League matches, but maybe in the pre-season," Watzke added. "We are delighted and take this as an honour."
So, if all goes to plan, and Bolt ends up being an outstanding strike or winger or even a box-to-box midfielder, is there a chance that he will be playing for Dortmund next season? "We don't even need to talk about it," was Watzke's reply to that particular question.
