The latest weekend box office collection reports suggest that Tamil movies continue their good run in the United States. "Uttama Villain" remains on the top, whereas "OK Kanmani" ("O Kadhal Kanmani") has beaten "Kanchana 2" by a huge margin.
In box office collection report by Bollywood Hungama, Kamal Haasan's movie is placed third after Bollywood movies "Piku" and "Gabbar is Back", with regard to weekend box office collections. The Tamil version of "Uttama Villain", in its second weekend, made $52,911 from 60 screens and the total gross of the film is estimated as $563,889 (₹3.60 Crore).
On the other hand, Telugu version of "Uttama Villain" has made $6,655 from 13 screens in the weekend, which made a total gross of $55,191 (₹35.28 Lakhs).
At the same time, Mani Ratnam's latest romantic flick has done extremely well in its fourth weekend too. The movie has made $8,583 from 10 screens. This has made the total gross of "OK Kanmani" around $859,925 (₹5.49 Crore).
Whereas, "OK Bangaram" - the Telugu version of Mani Ratnam's movie - is also doing extremely well in the US Box office. In its fourth weekend, the movie has made $5,086 from seven screens and the total gross of the movie has reached $365,735 (₹2.33 Crore).
Meanwhile, Raghava Lawrence's "Kanchana 2" - which is also in its fourth weekend - has made $806 from the single screen that was given to it. This has made the total box office collection of the movie reach $22,667 (₹14.49 Lakhs).
Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone-Amitabh Bachchab starrer "Piku" released on 8 May and resulted in loss of many screens for Kamal Haasan's "Uttama Villain". In its first weekend, the movie was shown on 98 screens, whereas by the second weekend, it has come down to 60 screens. Similarly, the Telugu version that had 33 screens last weekend now has just 10 screens.
At the same time, Mani Ratnam's "OK Kanmani" did not face too much cut down in screen count, but it looks like "Kanchana 2" will lose existing screen presence with more big releases in the coming weekend.
