The theatrical rights for United States territory of Vijay's upcoming movie have been acquired by 8K Miles Media, a South Asian media syndicate, in association with B&B Entertainment and Tentkotta, a popular Tamil films streaming portal. The rights have reportedly been sold for a record price.
"We are quite excited about presenting Bairavaa in the USA — the biggest release for Ilayathalapathy Vijay's 60th movie. And we are confident that the film will rake in the moolah at the box office," the distributors said.
The price paid to secure the rights of Bairavaa makes it the highest ever for a non-Rajinikanth film in the US, they added. The movie is expected to set the cash registers ringing when it is released close to the Pongal festival in January 2017.The US is one of the key centres for Tamil movies, being the second biggest overseas market for Kollywood after Malaysia.
Vijay's previous movie, Theri, had earned over Rs 6 crore in its lifetime in the US. The makers of Bairavaa now hope that his latest film would surpass his previous best and set a new benchmark in the industry.
Meanwhile, the Bairavaa team has landed in Switzerland to shoot a few songs for the film. The filming has been started and a couple of photos from the sets have hit the internet.
