Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic, known for his impressive antics both on and off the court, got on to the bright side of news once again on Monday at the US Open 2016. The men's tennis World No 1 not only defeated Poland's Jerzy Janowicz 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, but also created a cheerful moment following the match at Flushing Meadows.
Known for imitating numerous athletes, including Maria Sharapova, as well as for his unique style of humour, Djokovic, 29, during the post-match interview on Monday at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, hummed lines from Phil Collins' famous song 'I Can't Dance', which he had performed back in 1991 with his band, 'Genesis'.
Not only that, the 12-time Grand Slam singles champion also pulled off some dance moves on-court and was cheered heavily by the crowd in attendance.
Former 'Genesis' frontman Phil Collins, of 'Another Day in Paradise' fame, had performed his 1984 hit song, 'Easy Lover', during the opening ceremony of the US Open 2016. Djokovic wanted to do something on similar lines and he didn't impress us any less with his short rendition of 'I Can't Dance'.
Talking about his opening match at the Flushing Meadows this year, however, it has to be said that the two-time US Open champion is not in the best of his shape. Djoker had to call his physio midway in the first set of his match against Janowicz as he felt some discomfort in his upper right arm.
Djokovic had earlier admitted that he was nursing an injury in his left wrist. Will these niggling injuries really trouble him ahead of his second round US Open 2016 match against Jiri Vesely, who defeated India's Saketh Myneni in the opening round?
"It's [The injury] getting better and better each day. I'm glad that I'm experiencing that so hopefully, as the tournament progresses, I'll reach my peak," said the Serbian. "Calling for the medical time-out was just prevention. It's all good. To be honest, I take it day by day. That's what I feel at the moment."
