Tennis legend Martina Hingis and Flavia Pennetta is set to face Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in the final of the 2014 US Open women's doubles on Saturday night.
Hingis is through to the finals for the first time since 1998 after beating the third-seeded team of Cara Black and Sania Mirza 6-2, 6-4 on Thursday. The pair dominated the match by hitting a total of 21 winners and breaking serve four times to seal their the spot in the final against Makarova and Vesnina.
"I think it's just really like the emotions are there," said Hingis. "It's a great preparation, as well. I mean, any title is a great title to have, whether it's a TeamTennis title, a Grand Slam or being No. 1. It's always another steppingstone in a career, and, you know; now we're here in the final. I'm really happy."
Hingis, who is from Switzerland, is a multiple Grand Slam winner in both singles and doubles, and retired from the sport a few years ago. She and Pennetta will now lock horns with Makarova and Vesnina at Flushing Meadows.
"I got goose bumps, the last two or three games it was pure tension," the 33-year-old Hingis. "I was really nervous, I don't remember being so nervous.
"I don't know how many chances I [will] get to be in the finals like this, so I'm really enjoying it."
Fourth seeded pair of Makarova and Vesnina, on the other hand, advanced to the final after a 7-5, 6-3 win over Kimiko Date-Krumm and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.
They also eliminated the Williams sisters -- Serena and Venus -- 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the quarterfinals en route to the summit clash.
The Russians won one Grand Slam doubles title as a pairing in French Open in 2013.
