"Pelli Choopulu" has outshined "Babu Bangaram" and surpassed $1 million in collections at the U.S. box office in its fourth weekend, while the Venkatesh starrer failed to cross $0.5 million mark in its second weekend.
Despite clashing with "Babu Bangaram" and few other big ticket Indian movies, the Vijay Deverakonda and Ritu Varma starrer has been rock-steady at the ticket counters in North America in its fourth week. When compared to its third weekend collection, "Pelli Choopulu" has shown around 40 per cent drop in its business in its fourth weekend.
"Pelli Choopulu" was expected to surpass the $1 million mark at the U.S. box office in its third week, but the movie fell short of a small margin in achieving it. The movie successfully crossed the mark on its fourth Friday and it showed decent growth on Saturday and Sunday. The film inched closer to $1.1 million mark in its fourth weekend.
"Pelli Choopulu" has collected approximately $87,256 from 38 screens at the U.S. box office in its fourth weekend, taking its 24-day total collection to $1,084,476 [Rs 7.29 crore]. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh â€tweeted: "Telugu film #Pellichoopulu - USA - Week 4: Fri $ 18,728, Sat $ 41,530, Sun $ 26,998. Total: $ 1,084,476 [₹ 7.29 cr]. SUPERB! @Rentrak."
On the other hand, "Babu Bangaram" collected $410,564 at the U.S. box office in its opening weekend. Trade experts had predicted that the movie would surpass $0.5 million mark on weekdays. But the movie collected just $40,702 on the weekend, taking its total to $451,266 and could not cross the mark in its opening week.
The Venkatesh and Nayanthara starrer hit a new low on its second Friday and failed to show big growth on the following days. "Babu Bangaram" has collected $26,779 from 36 screens at the U.S. box office in its second weekend, taking its 10-day total collection to $478,045 [Rs 3.22 crore]. Its per-screen average - $743 is much lower than that of "Pelli Choopulu," which has raked in an average of $2296 per screen.
