Three points will be the target for defending champions Uruguay when they play Paraguay in a crucial Group B Copa America 2015 match in La Serena on Saturday.
Uruguay saw their momentum quelled by Argentina, who beat their South American rivals 1-0 in their last group match, and now, stuck in third in Group B, behind Argentina and Paraguay, a win will be needed to guarantee a place in the quarterfinals.
It will be far from easy, however, as Paraguay are unbeaten in Copa America 2015, after a 2-2 draw with Argentina in the first match and a 1-0 win over Jamaica in their last game.
"They are a strong team and we expect a very difficult game," Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera told Ovacion Digital. "But we need to go out and win because it's the only chance we have left."
Oscar Tabarez's side have been a little circumspect in this tournament, with Uruguay clearly struggling to find their attacking groove without their talisman Luis Suarez, who was forced to miss the entire Copa America owing to the international ban from the biting incident at the World Cup.
The champions have scored just one goal all tournament – a 1-0 win over Jamaica in their opener – and goals will be needed to pick up the three points against Paraguay, who were the losing finalists four years ago.
Uruguay's defence, however, will also be tested as they will be without their rock at the back – Diego Godin – after the centre-back picked up a suspension following a yellow card in the last game.
"It will affect Uruguay a lot," Paraguay striker Raul Bobadilla said of the absence of Godin. "Not just because Godin is a great player but because he is the captain.
"We need to take advantage of his absence. As a striker I was happy that Godin was not playing.
"We know Uruguay have quality players and we respect them. But we also have a good team and we are confident."
Liverpool centre-back Sebastian Coates, who impressed so much in the last Copa America, is expected to stand-in for the suspended Godin for this vital match against Paraguay.
