Kanishak Kataria, an alumnus of IIT Bombay, has topped the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil services exam whose results were declared on Friday, April 6.
Srushti Deshmukh is a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, who has topped among the women candidates securing an overall fifth rank, the UPSC said.
The UPSC in a statement said that a total of 759 candidates (577 men and 182 women) have been recommended by the Commission for appointment to various services like IAS, IPS and IFS among others.
Appointment to the various services will be made according to the number of vacancies available with due consideration to the provisions contained in the rules for the examination.
A graduate in BTech from IIT-Bombay, Kataria has been working as a data scientist, according to his LinkedIn profile. Kataria belongs to SC category and hails from Rajasthan.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also congratulated him in his tweet, the CM said, "Heartiest congratulations to Rajasthan's Kanishak Kataria who has topped the UPSC civil services examination."
Gehlot also congratulated Akshat Jain who has secured the second position in the civil services examination. "It's a great achievement and a chance to give your best to society," He said.
Akshat is an engineering graduate from IIT Guwahati. He hails from Jaipur, his father is an IPS officer and his mother is an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer.
The number of vacancies reported by the government to be filled is asunder: IAS-180 (including reserved category), IFS-30, IPS-150, Central Services Group 'A'-384, Group 'B' services-68, reports PTI.
