The Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) Preliminary Examinations, 2016 were held on Aug. 7 at 72 centres across the country. Nearly 11.37 lakh candidates registered this year for the UPSC civil services preliminary examinations.
The examination consisted of two papers, each carrying questions worth 200 marks. Candidates who clear this stage would be entitled to take the Mains exams, which would be held on Dec. 3, 2016.
This year, the question paper focused more on current affairs and economy rather than other subjects like history, geography or statistics.
According to academic experts, an average of 110-120 marks in each subject could be a safe cut-off.
