The UPSC results 2016, which was declared on Wednesday, May 31, has brought pride to many aspirants and their family. Among them is Tanveer Asif, who is more than elated to secure the 25th rank in his second attempt.
But what's more marvelling is that Asif is the first graduate in his family. A native of Karnataka's Kalaburagi district, his father Shaik Yousuf is a retired assistant sub-inspector of Karnataka Police and his mother Jaina Fathima is a homemaker.
Asif indeed worked quite hard to crack the UPSC exams. After completing BE in Electronics and Communications from MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology in Bangalore, he went to New Delhi to prepare for the civil services exams. He and his family had to manage in a meagre sum of Rs 14,000 that his father received as monthly pension.
Asif gives all the credit to his mother. "I attribute all my success to my mother. Without completing formal education, she manages to write in two languages and speaks many more," said a proud Asif.
"Every time I needed money, she would mortgage her belongings to ensure that my preparations were not disturbed," he added.
While Asif's success is indeed an inspiring story, 14 UPSC candidates from Jammu and Kashmir brought pride to the state after they made it to the merit list.
Nandini KR from Karnataka has topped the exam this year. "I want to join IAS as I want to be in India and serve the people. Though challenging, I will get an opportunity to learn and work for the people," said Nandini. She also graduated in civil engineering from the MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology.
