Tata has been testing its future models on Indian roads for quite some now. While the Tiago, which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 in February, has already made its way to the Indian market, the other models, including the Hexa MPV, Nexon compact SUV and Kite 5 compact sedan, are currently going through rigorous test regime in the country.
The latest spy shots of Tata's future models — the Kite 5, Nexon and the Hexa — were snapped by MotorBeam, while they were undergoing testing on the outskirts of Maharashtra. All three were spotted with heavy camouflage.
Tata Kite 5 compact sedan
The upcoming Tata sedan, codenamed the Kite 5, is expected to make its market entry during the festive season this year. It is based on the Tiago hatchback and will be offered in both petrol and diesel options in India. Under the hood, the Kite 5 will come with 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol and 1.05-litre three-cylinder diesel motors. While the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine will churn out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, the all-new 1.05-litre, three-cylinder turbo-charged diesel engine will develop 69bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. Both engines will be available with multi-drive modes — Eco and City.
Tata Hexa
The Hexa, the facelifted avatar of the Aria, embodies Tata's new Impact design philosophy. The launch of the MPV is expected to happen around the festive season. It is expected to be priced between Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 15 lakh. When launched, the Hexa will take on the likes of Toyota Innova Crysta and Renault Lodgy in India.
Under the hood, the Hexa comes with a 2.2-litre four-cylinder VARICOR diesel engine, which is tuned to generate 154bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 400Nm of torque at 1,700 to 2,700rpm. The engine comes mated to either a 6-speed automatic transmission or six-speed manual transmission. It measures 4,764 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width and 1,780 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,850 mm.
The Hexa is expected to pack safety features such as six airbags, and anti-lock brake system (ABS) with electronic brake distribution (EBD).
Tata Nexon
The Nexon, the compact SUV from Tata, which will rival Maruti Suzuki's new compact SUV Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport, is likely to be launched in India next year. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 6.5 to Rs. 10 lakh in India.
Under the hood, the Nexon is likely to be powered by 1.2-litre turbo-charged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The transmission in the upcoming Tata compact SUV is expected to be taken care of by six-speed AMT box.
