If May was the month of new launches, could June be far away? If the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Volkswagen Tiguan, Toyota Innova Crysta Touring Sport, and new Isuzu MU-X SUV were some of the new models that made their way to the Indian market in May, June could also get a fair share with a host of launches in the offing. The month is expected to see the arrivals of models like the new Micra, Mercedes E220d and BMW 5 Series.
2017 Nissan Micra [June 2]
While the wait for Nissan's all-new Micra that was unveiled at the Paris Motors Show last year could stretch a little longer, the Japanese carmaker is not ready to hold back. The company as expected plans to bring the updated Micra for the time being until the all-new hatchback makes its entry into the Indian market.
The new Micra is expected to serve a slew of new features in its menu. The hatchback is expected to remain unchanged in its styling and will continue to be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. While the petrol mill is tuned to churn out 75bhp of power, the diesel one generates 62bhp of power. The features expected include new infotainment system, a reverse parking camera and rain sensing wipers. Nissan is expected to launch new Micra on June 2.
Mercedes-Benz E 220d [June 2]
German carmaker Mercedes-Benz will add a new E220d variant to its E-Class range in India on June 2. The upcoming E220d, which will be entry-level diesel model of E-Class in the country, will replace the E250d trim of previous generation E-Class. Powering the new E220d will be a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine, which is expected to churn out 191bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque, mated to 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. The current diesel engine version the E350d is powered by a V6 2987cc motor churning out 258hp of power at 3,400rpm and 620Nm of torque at 1,600-2,400rpm. It comes mated to 9G-tronic automatic transmission.
Mercedes-Benz E220d, which will be positioned between E200 and E350d is expected to be priced at round Rs. 60 lakh.
BMW 5 Series [June 29]
German carmaker BMW is also in the list with its all-new 5 Series sedan. The new BMW 5 Series will make its entry into the market on June 29. The bookings for the upcoming sedan area already open. BMW 5 series will come powered by 2.0-litre, four-cylinder unit and a 3.0-litre, inline-six unit, mated to eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The seventh generation model is longer by 36mm to 4,935mm, while the width has been extended by 6mm to 1,868mm and height has gone up by 2mm to 1,466mm. The wheelbase has also increased by 7mm over the predecessor's 2,975mm. The new sedan will be pitted against Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6.
Jeep Compass [June 1]
American utility vehicle maker Jeep will roll out made-in-India Jeep from FCA India's Ranjangaon plant in Maharashtra on June 1. The Compass, the most affordable offering of Jeep is expected to go on sale in India in August. Expected to be priced at around Rs. 18 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, the new Compass will be offered in two engine options -- a 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel and a 1.4-litre MultiAir turbo petrol. The diesel mill will develop 170hp and 350Nm of torque mated to a six-speed manual transmission. On the other hand, the petrol mill will belt out 160hp. Both the versions will also come with 4x2 and 4x4 options. A six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic will be offered with the petrol mill. The new Compass will rival Hyundai Tucson, the Ford Endeavour, the Toyota Fortuner and the newly launched Volkswagen Tiguan.
2017 Skoda Octavia facelift
Czech carmaker Skoda is working to launch the facelift avatar of the Octavia in India. Although the launch of the new Octavia facelift has not been confirmed yet, reports suggest that the launch is around the corner. In its new avatar, the Octavia facelift is expected to get split headlight design and wide air dam in addition to features like new steering wheel with mounted control buttons, new infotainment system and instrument cluster with MID. Other features expected include a customisable key that allows multiple users to save vehicle settings, folding tables on the back of the front seats, bottle holders, and a removable torch in the boot.
Under the hood, the Octavia is expected to continue the same. In India, the Octavia is currently offered with a 1.4 TSI petrol, a 1.8 TSI petrol and a 2.0 TDI diesel engines.
