A Jabalpur father was left in a tizzy when he found out that his teenage son stole Rs 46 lakh to celebrate Friendship Day in quite an unusual way.
The teenager, a class tenth boy, allegedly stole the money from his father and distributed expensive gifts to his friends in school and donated Rs 15 lakh to a daily wage- earner's son. He also gave away Rs 3 lakh to another boy who had finished his homework, according to a report published in Times of India.
The father, a builder based out of Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, had kept the money, which he got after selling a property worth Rs 60 lakh, in his cupboard only to find it missing a few days later. The baffled builder immediately reported the matter to the police.
During their investigation, the police officials did not find any signs of a possible theft but were able to crack the case soon. During the investigation, the police found out that the builder's son had found out about the huge amount in his dad's cupboard after which he distributed it among his friends, classmates and a needy boy from his neighbourhood. The son's generous act has left his father in a state of shock.
While the son of the daily wager is reportedly missing after the incident, another recipient of the money has bought himself a new car. The teenager also gifted smartphones and silver bracelets to nearly 35 classmates at his school and coaching centre.
"The boy's father has given us a list of students and we are trying to contact all of them. Parents of five students, who got the biggest shares, were summoned by the police and were told to return the money within five days. No case has been registered so far as all those involved are minors," Times of India quoted SI B S Tomar as saying.
The police have been successful in recovering Rs 15 lakh of the total stolen amount while efforts are on to recover the remaining. The police have also asked the parents of the missing boy to help them trace him.
