American two-wheeler-manufacturer UM Motorcycles on its Facebook page has confirmed its India entry on 3 February at Auto Expo 2016. Its first product for the Indian market is the Renegade Commando cruiser.

The Renegade Commando is a low-slung cruiser powered by a 223cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine developing 18bhp at 8,000rpm and 15.5Nm of torque at 5,500rpm, mated to five-speed transmission. The motorcycle comes with wide handlebars and hydraulic telescopic front suspension and spring rear suspension, which is ideal for a cruiser-segment motorcycle.

The motorcycle measures 2,223mm in length, 883mm in width and 1,050mm in height. The Commando comes with a wheelbase of 1,518mm and weight of 127kg. The estimated price for the motorcycle is around Rs 1.25 lakh. At this price point, the UM Motorcycles will be go up against the models of Bajaj Avenger and Royal Enfield.

Many reports claim UM Motorcycles will launch the Renegade Sport S model. If launched, the Sport S model will also share the same engine as the Commando, but possibly in a different state of tune.

UM Motorcyles, in alliance with the UP-based Lohia Auto, has invested Rs 100 crore for business expansion. Lohia Auto's Kashipur facility in Uttarakhand is being utilised by the joint-venture firm with an installed capacity to produce 1 lakh two-wheelers and 40,000 three-wheelers annually.
