Ukip leader Nigel Farage had to call off a planned campaign visit to Northampton on Tuesday 31 May, after anti-Ukip protesters crashed the event. Farage had planned to make a speech about the upcoming EU referendum, and further voice the case for Britain to leave the European Union. But this was met with opposition, with protesters chanting and waving pro-European slogans.
Heated arguments broke out between the two groups of supporters. An announcement by a police office that the Ukip leader would not be attending was greeted by cheers from the crowd.
Earlier that day, Farage was able to campaign in the city of Birmingham. He arrived riding an open-top bus in Ukip colours and met with people who had gathered to hear his speech.
Britains EU referendum is 23 June, when the public will decide whether or not to remain a part of the European Union.
