Several arrests were made in the United Kingdom on Thursday and Friday on suspicion of supporting terrorist activities. Five terror suspects were held in Birmingham and at Gatwick Airport, the West Midlands Police said on Twitter.
"Five people have been arrested in Birmingham on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism," the police said. A woman was among those arrested.
While four terror suspects were arrested in Birmingham on Thursday night, a 26-year-old man was arrested at Gatwick Airport early on Friday.
"This action forms part of an extensive investigation by West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit (WMCTU), together with the wider counter terrorism network, MI5 and international partners including Belgian and French authorities to address any associated threat to the UK following the attacks in Europe," Assistant Chief Constable Marcus Beale said in a statement.
Countries in Europe have been on terror alert after the November 2015 Paris attacks and the suicide bombings in Brussels last month.
