The UEFA's Champions League finally reaches the quarter-final stage where the eight best teams in Europe battle it out to edge closer to lifting the prestigious trophy.
Interestingly, this is the first time since the 1992/1993 season that a single side from the Premier League has failed to progress to the quarter-final of the competition.
While Liverpool were eliminated from the group stages of the Champions League itself, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal also failed to progress to the final eight losing to Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco respectively in the round of 16 this season.
Spanish teams have again done well this season as Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona all managed to make it to the quarter-final after beating Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke and Manchester City respectively in the previous round.
Ligue 1 sides have also, against all odds, done pretty well in the Champions League this season, with PSG and Monaco progressing to the final eight at the expense of Premier League sides Chelsea and Arsenal.
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, meanwhile, progressed to the quarter-final of the Champions League for a four straight season after recording a convincing 7-0 (aggregate) win over Ukrainian outfits Shakhtar Donetsk.
Juventus, who were eliminated from the group stages of the Champions League last season, also did well to reach the final eight, recording an impressive 5-1 (aggregate) win over German side Borussia Dortmund in the previous round.
Finally, Porto have managed to reach the quarter final of the European competition for the first time since the 2008/09 season after recording a comfortable 5-1 win over FC Basel in the previous round.
The Madrid derby between Real and Atletico is probably the highlight of this year's quarter-final as this game will be a rerun of the last season's final when the Carlo Ancelotti's men defeated Diego Simeone's side to claim the La Decima.
Interestingly, Real's record against Atletico this season has been dismal, with Simeone's side beat the Los Blancos in both La Liga games, the Spanish Super Cup as well as the Copa del Rey.
However, Real have been in good form of late and they will be hoping to finally do well against their city rivals.
Barcelona's clash against Paris Saint German will also be a repeat Of the 2012/13 quarter-final, where the Catalans emerged victorious on away goals (3-3 aggregate).
The two sides also met in the group stages this season, where they both won (home) and lost (away) a game each.
So it will be interesting to see who triumphs when these two sides meet in the final eight of the competition.
Juventus and Bayern Munich are, meanwhile, the clear favourites against AS Monaco and Porto respectively. While the Italian side are 12 points clear at the top of the Serie, Bayern are 10 points clear of their closest Bundesliga rivals.
The two sides are also doing well in their domestic cup competitions, with Juventus reach the final of the Coppa Italia and Bayern, reaching the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal.
However, the Champions League have always been full of surprises and Monaco and Porto will certainly be looking to upset Juventus and Bayern Munich despite them being the underdogs.
