Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil's movie Maheshinte Prathikaram bagged many accolades, including National Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam. Now, the Dileesh Pothan directorial, which won the hearts of many for "Pothettan's brilliance" will soon be remade in Tamil by hitmaker Priyadarshan.
Maheshinte Prathikaram review: A tale of realistic loveable revenge
The yet-to-be-titled project will star Udhayanidhi Stalin reprising the role of Fahadh, and on Monday, June 5, the actor announced about his association with the National Award winning director. "Happy to announce my next project wit Dir Priyadarshan sir! Produced by moonshot entertainment Santosh sir! [sic]," the actor wrote while sharing his photo with Priyadarshan and Santhosh.
The upcoming movie is expected to start rolling in Theni on July 15, and its screenplay will have a few changes -- its characters and backdrop to suit the Tamil audience. Actor MS Bhaskar will also be a part of the cast, and reports suggest that Malayalam actress Namitha Pramod might be considered as the female lead in the movie. The team will reveal more details on the cast and crew in the coming days.
Here is the Facebook post of Stalin:
Is Kerala audience unhappy with remake movies?
The Malayalam film industry makes a number of good movies that are remade into various languages. But looking at the history so far, a majority of them have failed to make an impact similar to the original versions as the audience often compare the movies.
Will the Tamil remake of Maheshinte Prathikaram have a similar fate? Comment below
Soon after Stalin announced the project, many memes surfaced on social media and it clearly explains that the audience, especially Malayalam movie-goers are not impressed with the casting of the movie. Netizens have also started guessing the names of other actors, who might be roped in for significant roles in the movie. It includes names of Santhanam, Hansika and Nayantara, among others.
Recently, Nivin Pauly's blockbuster Premam was remade in Telugu with the same name, but even before it went on the floors, Malayalam and Tamil audience, who had well-accepted the Alphonse Puthren directorial, expressed their disinterest with the remake version.
The "protests" continued after Shruti Haasan's photo from the shooting location was leaked online, and audience were of the opinion that she cannot replace Sai Pallavi, who played as Malar miss opposite Nivin's character George. Even after the movie's release, audience were posting negative comments about the Naga Chaitanya-starrer as a majority of the scenes were also copied exactly like the original movie.

A scene from Tamil remake of Maheshinte Prathikaram, starring Udhayanidhi Stalin and directed by Priyadarshan.
Pic 1 -- Stalin: Brother, he beat me.
Pic 2 -- Stalin: I will not wear my Ray Ban glass until I beat him back.
(In Maheshinte Prathikaram, after Jimson (Sujith Sankar) beats Mahesh (Fahadh) in a public place, the latter takes an oath not to wear slipper until he beat him back)
Sooraj Nair: another good malayalam movie is going to destruct, great director, but bad casting, fahad is a natural , realistic actor, stalin is a star, not actor.we expect good romance action movies from you.
Anu: Glad news.. but pls dont act in this movie. because fahad did a grt job in malayalam version. he was also not acted in in, but he lived in tht character. u should also be like him. dont act or overact, react like the character. best wishes
