India have been brilliant in the ongoing 2016 Uber Cup 2016, and they continued that form, reaching the semifinals of the competition by defeating Thailand on Thursday. This has been one of India's best performances in the competition so far.
There was huge pressure on India's best singles player -- Saina Nehwal -- to get off to a bright start, and help India take 1-0 lead. But, it was never going to be easy against a star player like Ratchanok Intanon. The Thailand girl put up an amazing show to help her team take a crucial lead, after defeating Saina 21-12, 21-9.
However, PV Sindhu, who is yet to lose a singles match in the Uber Cup 2016, continued her impressive ways, defeating Busanan Ongbumrungohan in straight games, 21-18, 21-7. It was a dominant performance from the Indian shuttler.
With this win, India came right back into the tie, and the doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa multiplied India's joy as they got past the Thai pairing of Puttita Supajirakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai, for a 2-1 lead.
India were just one win away from the semifinals spot, but it was not going to be easy with Thailand's Nitchaon Jindapol at the other end of the court against Ruthvika Shivani Gadde. The Indian played some outstanding badminton to help her team script a huge win in the competition, defeating Jindapol in straight games. The score read 21-18, 21-16 in favour of the Indian.
