Two tombs uncovered in Guatemala could shed light on decline of Maya civilisation
On 20 September, Guatemalan archaeologists said they hoped two tombs and a monument uncovered in Peten could shed light on a clash between kingdoms – Kanaal and Tikal – located in the Mayan Lowlands during the Classic period (250-900 AD). Both tombs, located in the north-eastern department of Peten, managed to escape decades of looting.
