Two people from Andhra Pradesh have been arrested by the CID for posting controversial comments on social media about Cyclone Hudhud that had hit Visakhapatnam on 12 October, killing about 50 people and affecting thousands of familes.
Among the two, who were arrested was a law student from Guntur, Chaganti Rahul Reddy, who had reportedly posted "adverse" comments on Facebook, comparing the destruction caused by the cyclone to 'Nature's way of taking revenge against betrayers', as per a report by The Hindu.
The comment could have been directed at the Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party in power in the state, as CID officials have claimed that Reddy is an activist of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), which is currently in the Opposition.
According to the report, Reddy had posted a comment in English and Telugu saying "I love u hudhoodh...".
"Chaganti Rahul Reddy posted irresponsible anti-people comments in the Facebook after the natural disaster Hududh" (sic), said the CID in a press release.
CID officials arrested Reddy and another person, Samudrala Uday Kumar from Hyderabad, under provisions of Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code.
The CID had received a complaint about "adverse comments" on social media on 15 October.
Both have been remanded in judicial custody
