Two personnel of the District Reserve Group (DRG) were injured in an encounter with the Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Sunday, May 14.
According to the officials the encounter took place at about 10 am near the forests of Timarpur-Basaguda axis, when the security squad led by the CoBRA commandos of the CRPF had an exchange of fire with Maoists in the area.
The injured soldiers have been airlifted by Indian Air Force to Raipur, where they have been admitted to the Ramakrishna Hospital.
The helicopter Mi 17 ops carried out the evacuation process in the active operation area by landing at a field close to where the casualties were and not on a secure helipad which is the usual norm.

Meanwhile, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with the Jharkhand police in a joint operation busted a Naxal ammunition dump in the forest area of Lohardanga in Jharkhand on Saturday evening.

Following the brutal Sukma attack which killed 25 CRPF personnel, the Indian government has beefed up its search operations to flush out the naxalites from their hiding and also recover arms and ammunition.
Maoist leader surrenders
Many important naxal cadres have also surrendered before the forces in the recent past. Dreaded Maoist leader Kundan Pahan, who was carrying a bounty of Rs. 15 lakh on his head has surrendered before the Additional Director General of Police R K Malik, IG (CRPF) Sanjay Lathkar, DIG A V Homkar and other senior police officers in Ranchi on Sunday.

Two other Maoists surrendered to the police on May 12 in Koraput district of Odisha. The two, including a woman who has been identified as Suna Hikoka (23), carried a reward of Rs four lakh each on their head.
