The alleged suicide of Sunanda Pushkar Tharoor, the wife of Indian politician and former United Nations Under Secretary General Shashi Tharoor has left the nation shocked. The news of Sunanda death was met with disbelief and shock.
The incident took place within 24 hours after Sunanda and her husband Shashi Tharoor were caught up in a Twitter controversy, also involving a Pakistani woman journalist, Mehr Tarar. Pushkar had accused the 45-year-old Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar of stalking her husband and trying to "break" her marriage. However,following this both Shashi and Sunanda had come out with a joint statement that they were "happily married", but distressed by "some unauthorised tweets".
Mehr Tarar,the 42 year old Pakistani journalist also reacted with shock on Twitter: "I just woke up and read this. I'm absolutely shocked. This is too awful for words. So tragic I don't know what to say. Rest in peace,Sunanda," she tweeted.
