TVS Motor Company, the third largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India, is reportedly gearing up for the launch of 125cc scooters in the country. The new 125cc scooters could be rolled out in calendar year 2017.
A report of Autocar professional, citing sources close to the development, says that TVS, the Hosur-based company, could also be looking at the introduction of a new sub-brand for its upcoming scooter as the company is taking the competition a notch higher. While other details about the upcoming scooter of the TVS are scanty at this point in time, report suggests that the new 125cc model could debut under Jupiter brand.
If reports of TVS 125cc scooter comes true, the company would be looking to enter a segment, which is dominated by Suzuki and Honda. Suzuki's Access leads the 125cc scooter segment in India, followed by Honda Activa. Another player in the segment is Vespa, which comes with a premium price tag.
In October, TVS witnessed positive sales with 12 percent growth at 3,08,690 units as against 2,74,622 units sold in October 2015. The domestic two wheeler sales of the company grew by 17.6 percent in October 2016 at 2,72,229 units sold last month, when compared to the 2,31,491 units sold during the same period last year. Exports during the same period stood at 35,134 units as against 41,682 in October 2015, registering a decline of 15.7 percent.
