One of the most awaited motorcycles in 2016 in India is the G 310 R, the offspring of the alliance between BMW Motorrad and TVS Motor Company. Latest reports indicate the duo has decided on Auto Expo 2016 as the ideal platform for the launch of the vehicle in the subcontinent.
A report from NDTV.Auto indicates the Indo-German alliance is targeting a growth strategy much like its rival, the Bajaj-KTM. Hence, a price tag of under Rs 2 lakh can be expected for the motorcycle.
The design of the motorcycle has been inspired by the brand's bigger sibling, the BMW S 1000 R, and features an athletic stance. The headlight unit is small compared to other BMW motorcycles, and in line with the overall compact design of the motorcycle. The two-wheeler features an uncluttered sharp design in the absence of graphics, and a minimalist rear section, which is typical of naked street bikes. The instrument cluster of the G 310 R comes with digital display that offers a wide range of information.
The motorcycle will be powered by the all-new 313cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with four valves and two overhead camshafts, together with electronic fuel injection. The striking feature of the engine is its backward-tilted cylinder in open-deck design with the cylinder head turned 180 degrees. The engine develops an output of 33.5bhp at 9,500rpm, and maximum torque of 28Nm at 7,500 rpm, mated to a six-speed gearbox.
The motorcycle will be built at TVS Motor Company's facility in India and that makes it the first BMW Motorrad bike to be manufactured outside of Europe. In India the motorcycle is expected to be launched as a TVS product.
