TVS Motor Company unveiled Akula 310, a racing concept, at the Auto Expo 2016 in the beginning of February, to celebrate 33 years of TVS as a factory team in the racing arena. Reports said the company had started working on its production-spec version soon after it received positive response at the show. The latest report indicates the launch of the motorcycle has been confirmed this year.
A report in NDTVauto says sources close to TVS Motor Company have told them work on this project is underway in full swing, and its launch will happen later in 2016. The track-bred motorcycle has been developed with the knowhow of BMW Motorrard. For the uninitiated, TVS and BMW are in alliance for manufacturing a sub-500cc motorcycle. The Akula 310 is powered by a 310cc engine capable of producing 34bhp of power and mated to a six-speed gearbox. This is the same engine that also powers the BMW 310 R motorcycle the company revealed last year.
TVS claims the bike will sport a high-performance engine breathing through a forced air fed air box that gives the engine a high rev peak capability. The concept showcased featured USD forks, a stiff space frame chassis as well as lightweight carbon-fibre bodywork. Other features include a digital speedometer, on-board gyro cameras and a steering damper for additional stability. The final product of the Akula 310 concept is expected to test the technical brilliance of TVS and will be an important model of the company to bolster its presence in the racing arena.
