Bollywood actor Salman Khan will treat his fans with his upcoming film Tubelight during Eid this year. The recent buzz is that the Pakistani filmmakers are initiating a movement to stall the release of Salman's movie in their country.
According to Press Trust of India, there will be two big Pakistani films, Yalghaar and Shor Sharaba, releasing on the same day in Pakistan and the filmmakers do not want Tubelight to clash with their movies at the box office. It will apparently affect the collection of Pakistani box office.
The filmmakers along with the Film Distributors Association and the Film Producers Association want to ensure better business for Pakistani films during the Eid holidays.
"If Tubelight also releases on Eid, it will certainly hit the business of these Pakistani films and that will not help our industry," actor Mustafa Qureshi told PTI.
The protesters, who are against the release of Tubelight in Pakistan, are citing a law passed by the Federal Ministry of Information in 2010 that forbids the release of any Indian film on a Muslim holiday.
In fact, PTI reported that the producers are ready to take the matter to the court as well. Producer of Shor Sharaba, Sohail Khan said: "My film is supposed to release on Eid-ul-Fitr and if the government doesn't stall Tubelight, I will not release it as a mark of protest."
Chaudhry Ejaz Kamran, the chairman of the Pakistan Film Distributors Association has also supported the move. "It is not fair asking our films to compete with big Bollywood projects on Eid and it is cruel to our industry", he said.
As per the sources, the Ministry had given instruction to stop the release of Tubelight well in advance. However, now the matter has been taken quite seriously and a letter has also been written to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
