Despite India's loss in the first Test match at Edgbaston, former captain Sourav Ganguly has asked Virat Kohli to refrain from chopping and changing too much and giving the players a longer run in the team.
Taking to Instagram, Ganguly said that one criticism which Kohli faces is that he makes a lot of changes to his side and that the skipper should guard against it.
'English conditions cannot be used as an excuse anymore'
"One criticism for @Virat.Kohli is that he should give a consistent run to his batters & more time before dropping them. The failure against swing in English conditions can't be used as an excuse anymore as everyone knows that it's what you get when you come to England," Ganguly wrote on his Instagram post.
Speaking about the conditions in England, the former skipper said that the batsmen should expect the ball to seam and swing and England and not to be too worked up about the same.
"You can't be excused all the time & we have lost before in 2011 & 2014. You've to bat well. It's a very well known fact that the ball will swing in England the same way as Australia is known for its pacy wickets. So if previously you've scored runs there is no reason you can't now," Ganguly added.
Writing about the other batsmen, Ganguly believed that the team cannot only be dependent on Kohli and that senior players in Murali Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane have to stand up and be counted and score runs to assist their captain.
"This was the first Test in a 5 match series & I think this team has the capability to come back & play well. #AjinkyaRahane & #MuraliVijay will have to show some determination since they have scored runs in these conditions before," Ganguly added.
After conceding the first Test at Edgbaston by 31 runs, India will now take on the hosts at Lord's in the second Test which begins on August 9. Although there are murmurs about tweaking the Indian side, it would be interesting to see the route the management takes.
