The father of a nine-year-old girl was arrested on Saturday for allegedly attempting to bury her alive at Putia in Sipahijala district of Tripura.
The SP (Control) Uttam Bhaumick said that the arrested man Abdul Hussain's crime came to light when his neighbour saw him forcibly trying to bury the nine-year-old in a pit in the backyard of his house on Friday, reported PTI.
On seeing what Hussain was trying to do, the neighbour raised an alarm and the residents came and rescued the young girl.
At the time of the incident, the girl's mother was not at home.
The residents took the girl to the nearest hospital where she was admitted. The condition of the girl is said to be serious.
