Toyota Kirloskar Motor, which was said to be mulling over launching the Vios sedan to fill the void between Etios and the Corolla Altis sedans, seems to be going ahead with the plan. The vehicle was recently caught testing in Bengaluru.
A spy picture taken by TeamBHP shows the rear of the sedan sans camouflage. The car is draped in white colour while the chrome bar between the tail lamps has been masked. The launch of the Vios in India is expected in 2017-2018. The next generation Vios sedan is reportedly being developed by Toyota Motor Asia Pacific in Thailand, with Indian specifications in mind.
The Vios for India will be powered by a 1.6-litre petrol and a 1.6-litre diesel engine. The cars are likely to be imported from Thailand as completely knocked down unit (CKD) and will be assembled at Toyota India's manufacturing facility in Bangalore.
On the other hand, many other reports suggest that TKM will launch a version of the Toyota Vios, codenamed Etios C, specifically developed for the emerging markets. This version will be based on the Etios sedan while the design will be heavily inspired from the Vios sedan. TKM will opt for maximum localisation for this product and it will be priced competitively.
