The Innova Cross, which is believed to be the extensively tweaked version of the current Innova, is expected to be launched in India by the end of 2016. According to a report of MotorOctane, Toyota has already registered the name and work on it is in progress.
It has been long-rumoured that the current Innova will be tweaked and sold as the Innova Cross in the country alongside the new Innova Crysta, the second generation of the MPV. However, Toyota is yet to confirm the news.
The Innova Cross, which is expected to retain the same body kit, is also rumoured to carry over the powertrains of the current model. It will most probably be powered by a 2.5 litre diesel engine with five-speed manual transmission. It can develop 100bhp of power at 3,600rpm and 200Nm of torque. The model is expected to be positioned below the upcoming Innova Crysta and would rival Honda Mobilio and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. It is being said that Toyota would price it under Rs.10 lakh.
Toyota is expected to launch the Innova Crysta MPV in the market on May 3. Under the hood, the Innova Crysta gets 2,755cc and 2,393cc diesel engines. While the 2,393cc diesel engine will develop 148bhp of power and 243Nm of torque, the 2,755cc mill will churn out 172bhp and 360Nm of torque. The engine is expected to come mated to a six-speed automatic and a five-speed manual gearbox. It is likely to be priced at around Rs.14 lakh in India.
