Wii U gamers have been seemingly happy with the games that have rolled out for the handheld console in 2014. However, many developers of AAA games skipped having a Wii U version of their game and released them for other consoles.
If players are to compare the Wii U handheld and other consoles, the difference in the CPU and graphics of these platforms will be sidelined if there are fun and exciting games to play.
Below are some of the games that were released to Wii U in 2014 and have been a hit among its users:
1. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
The fighting game title from Nintendo has been one of the most popular games among players who have being excited as it offers some amazing gameplay.
This game is compatible with many different Nintendo controllers. It allows players to battle it out with about eight players and they can even enjoy some original soundtracks in the game.
It is not just Mario or Zelda characters, but the game offers a host of star characters numbering around 40. Players can make use of the customised Amiibo fighter and use them in the game. It also allows us to customise the game by enabling them to create their own stages.
The game was released on 3 October, 2014 and sold 490,000 units in the first three days of the Wii U release.

2. Mario Kart 8
This Nintendo kart-racing gaming title boasts of its ability to race on the walls and ceilings with some anti-gravity stuff that is normally seen in movies and among superhuman characters.
Players will also be able to use different controller combinations to enjoy the game on TVs.
The game has motorbikes, hang gliders, underwater racing and more and players can customise their vehicles. It supports both local multiplayer and 12 online multiplayers.
The game also has voice chat support and Grand Prix, Time Trials, and VS Race modes. Players can use the items that are on the tracks by collecting them and using it against the enemy.
The game was released on 30 May, 2014. The first four days of its release, the game sold out 1.2 million copies.

3. Hyrule Warriors
A hack and slash game from Omega Force and Team Ninja is the Hyrule Warriors. Players play as heroes who have to protect the Hyrule Kingdom from being ripped apart by evil sorceress and her army.
The game boast of re-imaged world designed for combat, some of the favourite characters, stunning visuals and huge battlefields.
The warriors players have unique weapon and they can unleash the fury with over-the-top moves. Players will be dealing with waves of enemies and there will be one boss character that they have to kill.
If you have to defeat these enemies, you need to pick the right tool and that comes with finding items on the battlefields. Players will also have to solve puzzles and will also be gaining access to new places on the map.
The money collected via battles will help warriors upgrade their armoury and weapons. The game also allows for a 2-player co-op mode using the Wii U GamePad controller.

4. Bayonetta 2
The hack and slash game from Platinum Games's game Bayonetta 2 brings back the main protagonist, Bayonetta but she sports a new costume and hairstyle.
The game has two-player mode. Players will be able to customise the weapons and equip the protagonist with it. Use the combos along with her weapons to deal a major blow to enemies.
The game has other characters too like Jeanne, who helps Bayonetta during the battle. If players want power-ups, then The Gates of Hell, Rodin's shop is the best option to arm with powerful weapons and accessories and newer techniques.
Bayonetta 2 was rolled out on 24 October, 2014.

5. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
This side-scrolling game from developers Retro Studios, Monster Games and Nintendo brought in the old Donkey Kong back into the forest with a tropical touch however.
The game has Donkey Kong and his friends going to six different islands in order to reach their ultimate task of defeating the Snomads.
The game offers players the ability to pick up things from the ground and throw at enemies keeping them stunned. Players will be able to perform a special move when the 'Kong-POW' meter is filled up. It also has a 2-player co-op mode with the other player controlling King Kong's friends.
