The utility vehicles market saw a major rejig after the arrival of a host of new vehicles in the past 10 months. It also saw many long standing best selling models slipping to lower ranks. The sales result of May 2016 saw three best selling models of May 2015 out of the list, replaced by latest launches.
Bolero was the best selling model in May 2015. In fact, Mahindra's workhorse has been on the throne for nearly a decade. However, the sales number of May 2016 saw the Bolero slipping to the fifth spot with sales of 4,419 units, reported Financial Express. This is a major decline in sales as the company sold 7,569 units of the Bolero in the corresponding month last year.
Toyota Innova Crysta is the best selling UV in May with sales of 7,259 units. The last generation of the popular MPV was the third best seller in May 2015 with 5,028 units sold. The newly launched Crysta has increased the sales by a big margin.
Maruti Suzuki's first compact SUV, the Vitara Brezza, is the second best selling UV. India's largest car maker found 7,193 takers for its compact SUV in May. The third best seller is the Hyundai Creta and the Korean car maker sold 7,057 units of the same last month.
Mahindra's new compact SUV, the KUV100 launched in January this year, is the fourth best seller. The KUV100 found 4,446 takers in May, replacing the Bolero as the best selling model of Mahindra.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Mahindra Scorpio and the Ford EcoSport UVs, which were the second, fourth and fifth best selling UVs in May 2015, couldn't retain the position in May 2016.
