The Indian arm of South Korean car-maker Hyundai could be losing its dominant poise as the leading passenger car exporter from the country to the United States. For the fourth consecutive month, the US auto major Ford has firmly taken the leadership position. The latest data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures (SIAM) reveals that Ford has beaten Hyundai in exports. Hyundai finished fourth in May in which Ford India exported 16,761 vehicles.
In second place was Volkswagen India with exports of 10,477 units, while General Motors India took the third spot. It should be noted here that General Motors India has wound up its Indian operations and will henceforth be making only export-spec models.
Hyundai's fledgeling fortunes continued with only 8,257 units exported in May. Coming behind the South Korean automaker was India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki in the fifth slot with 6,175 units. The sixth and seventh places were taken by Nissan India and Toyota, respectively. To round off the list of the top 10 passenger vehicle exporters, Renault India came in the eighth position, Honda Cars India in the ninth, and Mahindra and Mahindra edged into the tenth slot.
In terms of exports, Hyundai is behind Ford since February. In February, Ford had exported 15,688 cars, Hyundai's export stood at 10,407. Ford had also recorded higher exports than Hyundai in March and April.
