Actor Tom Cruise and actress Katie Holmes were inseparable not long ago but their six-year-old marriage had a sad ending after the latter filed for divorce late last month. They settled their divorce on Monday.
Celebrity couples' divorce usually take time and some even resort to messy fights ranging from property to children custody but Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes took less than two weeks to settle their divorce.
"The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed. We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life," Holmes attorney Jonathan Wolfe of New Jersey-based firm Skoloff & Wolfe said in a statement.
"Tom is really pleased we got there, and so am I," said Cruise lawyer Bert Fields in a statement.
However, the joint statement of the former couple didn't reveal the reason for their divorce.
"We are committed to working together as parents to accomplishing what is in our daughter Suri's best interests," said the joint statement. "We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents."
Tom Cruise (50) of "Mission Impossible" fame married actress Katie Holmes (33) in November 2006 in an Italian castle and they have a daughter together named Suri. It was Holmes's first marriage and Cruise's third. He had earlier married to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman.
