Tata Motors' latest offering, the Tiago, became the best-selling car of the company within weeks of its launch in April. Tata Motors had launched its latest hatchback bearing the Impact design language on April 6, and sold 3,022 units of the car last month. The sales figures made it the best-selling Tata car in April, reports Indian Autos Blog.
The next best-selling model from Tata Motors is Indigo and Manza, both of which together found 1,581 buyers in April. This makes it clear that the Tiago has become the most important product for the Indian car maker in the launch month itself.
The Tiago has seen such a high demand primarily because of its competitive pricing. Its range price starts at Rs. 3.2 lakh for petrol models and Rs. 3.94 lakh for diesel models, ex-showroom Delhi.
SN Barman, VP of sales and network (passenger vehicles) at Tata Motors Ltd., recently admitted that holding on to the current price will be difficult for the company.
Tata Motors had earlier said that they had received over one lakh enquiries for the Tiago. Manufactured at the Sanand plant in Gujarat, the Tiago is available in both petrol and diesel mills. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol mill churns out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, while the 1.05-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine produces 69bhp of power 4,000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 1,800-3,000rpm. Both the engines come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The Tiago has been launched with a claimed fuel efficiency of 23.8kmpl for petrol and 27.28kmpl for diesel.
