It wasn't exactly the kind of Diwali, Marina Arena would have liked, for sure, as the Indian Super League match between Chennaiyin FC and NorthEast United FC stopped midway in the first half, with the clock reading 25:13 on Wednesday evening in Chennai.
However, the game resumed after atleast more than a half-an-hour break, following a green signal from the match commissioner.
The ISL action on Wednesday began with some good amount of pace, but the massive downpour played a spoilsport. Okay, the footballers know playing under incessant rain is not a big deal, but what about the lightning?
Play got suspended during the 25 minute and 13 second mark owing to fireworks from the sky -- in this case, natural fireworks, and a tweet was later posted from the official handle of the Indian Super League, stating that the thunderstorm played the spoilsport.
It wasn't exactly what Simao Sabrosa and Elano expected, as they could only nod their heads to the decision from the match commissioner. Fans remained disheartened for some time, but the midway halt of the game didn't let their excitement and the anticipation die down a bit.
According to the rules of the ISL, the the game can be delayed for upto two hours before it has to be called off.
