Aamir Khan's Thugs of Hindostan has released in China, and unlike the actor's recent movies, TOH witnessed average box office collection on its opening day.
Thugs of Hindostan has had a disappointing run at the Indian box office with its lifetime net domestic collection ending at Rs 151 crore. Before Thugs of Hindostan, Aamir's Dangal and Secret Superstar had done excellent business in China, and hence it was expected that his latest release even though failed in India, it would work at the Chinese box office.
However, the movie witnessed an average opening there with a collection of Rs 10.67 crore. Dangal and Secret Superstar had minted Rs 1000 crore and Rs 750 crore respectively at the Chinese box office.
"Aamir Khan is a big draw in #China and his last two films [#Dangal, #SecretSuperstar] have done stupendous biz there... Yet, #ThugsOfHindostan has had a shockingly low start in #China... Fri $ 1.53 mn [₹ 10.67 cr]... Includes previews Showings: 27,577 Admissions: 338,601 [sic]," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
It will be interesting to see if Aamir's movie witnesses an upward trend over the weekend in China or the film disappoints the audience there as well.
Thugs of Hindostan is one of the most expensive Bollywood movies. With a huge star cast involving Aamir, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh, the movie was one of the most anticipated ones of 2018.
