Three minor girls from one family were found dead in their house in Delhi's Mandawali on Tuesday evening (July 24). The three deceased children have been identified as an eight-year-old Mansi, five-year-old Paro and a two-year-old Sukho.
Investigations reveal the kids' mother is mentally ill
Preliminary investigation and autopsy have revealed that the children died due to starvation. Their bodies were found lying in vomit.
The children died of hunger as their mother is mentally unstable, which left the children to take care of themselves. They used to live in a different shanty in the same slum but were thrown out as they failed to pay the rent.
Often their neighbours would lend them rice to eat.
The children's father Mangal, a rickshaw-puller, had also not been able to earn any money after his only mode of earning was stolen a few days. As a result, the family had not eaten a meal since Saturday (July 21). The family was struggling to make their ends meet.
Autopsy reports
Earlier, reports had claimed that the children might have been poisoned. However, two post-mortem reports have confirmed that the children indeed died of hunger. Their gall bladders were filled with bile, which is a fluid that is made and released by the liver in order to helps the process of digestion. Reports have also said that each of their spleen were also found to be in a bad shape.
Doctors have said that there was no trace of food or water in their stomach and even their urinary bladder and rectum was empty.
Meanwhile, the children's mother Beena, who got married to Mangal 10 years ago, said that her husband did not take care of the family. She also said that she was mentally ill and would often forget things.
