"Independence Day" star Jeff Goldblum will soon join the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the star-studded "Thor: Ragnarok." Fans were pleasantly surprised when his name was recently announced as one of the cast members of the film.
During a recent chat with Empire, Goldblum — who will be appearing in "Thor 3" as the Grandmaster, an ancient elder of the universe in Marvel Comics — dished out some details about his character.
"He's a hedonist, a pleasure-seeker," he said of the Grandmaster. "He's an enjoyer of life and tastes and smells. I thought, 'I can do that, I'll bet!' I'm working on my part every day. I'm a sponge, researching. [Director Taika Waititi] is encouraging me to improvise and make it my own, and that's what I'm trying to do. I hope he doesn't throw me out on the first day!"
The actor also shared his filming schedule for the movie saying that his scenes will only require "three weeks or a month" for him to shoot in Brisbane, Australia. About shooting with the film's star-studded cast, he gushed: "Not only Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Anthony Hopkins... jeez, that's gonna be fun. I've never been to Australia except to do these little publicity things."
The filming of "Thor: Ragnarok" is set to start on July 4 on the Gold Coast among other places in Australia. The film is slated for release on Nov. 3, 2017.
