Until now, we thought Ranveer Singh was playing Alauddin Khilji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmavati." Rumour has it that the director is looking at replacing him with another A-list actor and chances are Shah Rukh Khan may take it up.
Apparently, Sanjay is "furious" about Ranveer wanting a copy of the script and so doesn't want him in the project, Mid-Day reported. Surprisingly, reports were rife till a few days back about how hard the young actor is working prepping for the role.
What else is on with "Padmavati"
Deepika Padukone has been roped in to play the titular role, but her onscreen husband hasn't been finalised yet. The period film is scheduled to roll in three weeks time, but the makers are still on the lookout for the perfect actor who could play the part.
Last heard, Shahid Kapoor has been approached to play the role. He agreed to come onboard after his fee was hiked and character re-written.
"It will be a fresh pairing for Bhansali. Initially, Sajid Nadiadwala was keen to cast them in Heer And Ranjha, but the film got shelved. Bhansali has been in talks with Shahid for some time. Initially, Shahid was not too convinced as Ratan Singh's character," a source told DNA.
The twist is, despite all the tweaks and changes, the "Udta Punjab" actor may still not make the cut. Apparently, Deepika has taken it upon herself to finalise the actor opposite her. She reportedly refused to work with a TV actor and Vicky Kaushal as they are not established stars. The leading lady was keen on romancing Fawad Khan, but he couldn't take the project up as he doesn't have spared dates.
