MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, starring Sushant Singh Rajput, has been creating waves at the box office, doing huge business for the producers. But the Marathi version of the movie has not been released.
The makers of the biopic on cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni had planned to release a dubbed version of the movie in Marathi but director Neeraj Pandey dropped the idea after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's cine wing objected to its release in the language.
MNS had said that the release of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story in Marathi would cause "unfair" competition for regional movies, prompting Neeraj Pandey to decide against releasing it in the language.
"I am all for regional cinema. If Hindi version impacts regional cinema in some way, then I have a clear stand on it – regional films have to survive. They can co-exist, but there has to be a way about it," Mid-Day quoted Pandey as saying.
MS Dhoni: The Untold Story experienced a record opening at the box office, becoming one of the highest opening day and weekend grossers of 2016. The film received positive response from the critics and the strong word-of-mouth publicity too facilitated excellent business. Apart from Hindi, the film has been released in Tamil and Telugu languages.
