Ever since Fatima Sana Shaikh has been finalised for Aamir Khan's Thug of Hindostan, rumours have been doing the rounds that she bagged the role because of Aamir's recommendation.
The news invited a lot of flak given that rumours of Aamir's romantic interest in Fatima, who played his daughter in Dangal, has been doing the rounds of late.
However, Aamir's wife Kiran Rao smashed all such rumours by defending Fatima. When asked if Aamir recommended Fatima, Kiran clarified by saying that the Dangal actress was cast purely on basis of merit.
She believes that Aamir and producer Aditya Chopra will never take the risk with a big film like Thugs of Hindostan if they feel that a particular actor don't fit into the character.
"We don't deal with casting. Aamir, Adi and Victor decided the casting so they must have given it a good thought because it's a big film. There has to be merit or else they wouldn't take risk with such a big film," Deccan Chronicle quoted her as saying.
Meanwhile, Thugs of Hindostan is about pirates and their adventurous voyage. Rumour has it that the storyline of the film is quite fascinating and is on the lines of Pirates of the Caribbean.
To be directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, Thugs of Hindostan also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif besides Aamir and Fatima and is all set to release on Diwali 2018.
