The winter finale of This is Us ended on a major cliffhanger that left fans wondering if Chris Sullivan's Toby is alive or dead.
The episode saw Toby arriving at Randall's house and declaring that he has started dieting once again because he realised he doesn't want to lose Kate once again. Kate was happy to have Toby back in her life, and everything was going smooth until he collapses and had to be rushed to the surgery. When the episode ended things weren't looking too good for Toby, and Sullivan has been tight-lipped regarding the fate of his character.
"Well, I'd say he's definitely one or the other," Sullivan told Entertainment Weekly when asked if his character lives or dies. You know what I mean?
"It is a bold and tricky storytelling move that only the writers' room of This Is Us could handle. Any actor becomes concerned when the writing staff starts having them collapse over coffee tables, but I have faith in our creative team that they will tell the best version of the story that there is to tell."
When asked about yet another clue to Toby's fate, he said: "I think I just said it. I'm going to leave it at that. I start saying any more than that, I'm going to get in trouble. I know they're listening to these calls. They're listening to these calls right now. I know they're listening."
Based on the actor's IMDb credits, we have reasons to believe Toby isn't going to go away that easily. He is expected to be featured in the next three episodes titled Three Sentences, The Big Day and The Right Thing to Do. All these episodes will be aired in 2017.
