Brace yourselves, DC comic fans, as the production house has announced its upcoming project. It is official; DC's Harley Quinn is getting her own movie. Titled Gotham City Sirens, the spin-off movie is said to be produced by Margot Robbie and will star her in the lead as well. The feature film will be directed by David Ayer, who also made the all-villain film Suicide Squad.
According to a report in the Hollywood Reporter, Ayer will be seen directing and will don the role of the executive producer (with Robbie) of the film and recreate an extended story of Harley Quinn, Joker's girlfriend and DC's most popular female character, in Gotham City Sirens. The news website also reports that Geneva Robertson-Dworet, a top female action genre writer who has scripted Tomb Raider remake and Warners' Sherlock Holmes 3, will be writing the screenplay.
A comic series named Sirens was launched by DC recently that featured the most popular villainesses from the Batman's rogue. The series showcased Quinn, Catwoman (Batman's occasional love interest) and Poison Ivy. Gotham City Sirens will be based on the same and could feature Catwoman and Ivy.
Apart from Robbie and Ayer, the executive heads of DC, Geoff Johns and Jon Berg, will be involved in the production of Gotham City Sirens. While the production house hasn't announced a date for Sirens, the project is on track. Harley Quinn's Gotham City Sirens will attempt to recreate the box office records of Suicide Squad.
Suicide Squad, which was released last year, featured Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, among others, in the lead. The film earned $745.6 million globally.
Other films that DC is working on include the sequel of Suicide Squad and the spin-off of Deadshot, played by Smith.
