Sanjay Leela Bhansali hasn't been able to zero in on an actor for the part of Deepika Padukone's husband in "Padmavati." Some reports also claim that none of the A-list actors are ready to play second fiddle to the leading lady, leaving the unit in a fix.
If reports are to be believed, Shahid Kapoor has been approached for the role and if everything falls into place, the "Udta Punjab" star may just hop in. "Bhansali wants Shahid to play the Chittor King who is married to Rani Padmini of Chittorgarh," SpotboyE quoted a source as saying.
Meanwhile, the team had almost approved a television actor for the role, but Deepika put her foot down and apparently said she wanted someone who is a big deal opposite her. Also, she has some intense, romantic scenes with her husband, which is why she wants an A-lister. The onscreen husband has to be finalised soon as the first leg is all about the king and queen (of the film).
Vicky Kaushal of "Raman Raghav 2.0" fame was almost on board the period-drama, but walked out of it as he thought the character is too weak and isn't central to the plot.
Ranveer Singh, who plays the role of shrewd ruler Alauddin Khilji, has begun preparations. The young star is thrilled and had a lengthy discussion about the project with the filmmaker recently.
In other news, Deepika will be next seen in "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage," which also Vin Diesel, Ruby Rose, Tony Jaa and Samuel Jackson in key roles. Ranveer has wrapped up Aditya Chopra's "Befikre" in Paris; the romantic-comedy is out on Dec. 9.
