Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are yet to finalize their divorce. The former Hollywood couple split in September 2016 and since then, they both are struggling to win the custody battle of their six children.
It was recently reported that after their separation, Brad Pitt had made a loan to Angelina Jolie for $8 million dollars to buy a home. In addition to this, Jolie's attorney, Samantha Bley DeJean told People that the actress' estranged husband is even charging her interest on the said amount.
"What has been filed by Brad's side today is a blatant attempt to obfuscate the truth and distract from the fact that he has not fully met his legal obligations to support the children," said Bley DeJean.
Angelina indicated in her recent court filing that the father of her six children is not paying her "meaningful" child support since their official separation in 2016. In contrast to this, Brad responded in the court with his own filing stating he had paid over $1.3 million to provide for the actress and their six children. In addition to this, the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood movies star even loaned her an enormous amount close to $8 million to help her buy a place of her own.
Since their separation, Angelina and her six children had reportedly moved out from the family house in which Brad Pitt is currently living. Jolie's attorney added in the court filing that Pitt was asked to help at the expense of the new home for his soon to be ex-wife.
"Instead he loaned Angelina money, for which he is charging her interest on a payment plan."
However, according to Forbes, Pitt's use of the intrafamily loan is actually helpful in moving ahead in the divorce proceedings. An intrafamily loan comes with no limitations on how a borrower uses the proceeds. The said feature has an enormous advantage in a market environment in which the return rates are low and valuations on a wide range of assets have fallen.
In simpler words, an intrafamily loan is a loan provided to a family member and at the same time take advantages of the tax law.
In Brad and Angelina's case, as per the report from Forbes, helping his estranged wife in buying a house through the use of loan actually makes everything transparent in the divorce proceedings. In addition to this, the Fight Club movie actor needs to be extremely careful about presenting Angelina Jolie with any kinds of unintended gifts.
As per the report, the basis intrafamily loan requirements are reportedly made between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as the actor is charing his ex-wife interest. Since the loan amount is huge, the actress may be able to deduct a portion of the interest.
